1. Install WalkBlock from Google Play
Install WalkBlock on the Android phone that needs movement-aware protection. Open the app and review the setup explanation with the child so everyone understands what will be blocked and what will remain available.
2. Grant the required Android access
WalkBlock needs activity recognition to respond to movement, usage access to identify the active app, and display-over-apps access to show the safety screen. A foreground notification helps Android keep protection running. Follow the in-app checks; settings screens may look different on Samsung, Google Pixel and other devices.
3. Create the parent PIN
Choose a PIN the child does not know and store it safely. The PIN protects important configuration changes. A forgotten PIN may require recovery steps, so do not use a number that is easy for the child to guess.
4. Choose distracting and essential apps
Review the installed-app list. Limit games, video, social and other apps that pull attention away from the surroundings. Keep calls, maps, transport, payment or accessibility tools available when the family needs them. The safe list should match the child’s real route and responsibilities.
5. Configure schedules
Schedules can focus protection on school travel, afternoons or other routines. Test both scheduled and unscheduled periods so the intended behavior is clear.
6. Test movement and stillness
Walk with the device and open a selected distracting app. Confirm that the safety screen appears, then stop and verify that access resumes according to the configured behavior. Repeat the test with the phone in the usual pocket or bag.
7. Review reports and adjust
Recent local reports help parents see when blocking was triggered. Use them to identify missed apps, false positives or schedules that need adjustment. Clear local reports from the app when they are no longer needed.
