What WalkBlock does
WalkBlock uses Android activity-recognition signals, app-usage access and overlay capability to identify a protected situation and cover selected distracting apps. Parents configure the app list, schedules and PIN on the device.
What WalkBlock does not do
The current Android manifest does not request precise or approximate location permission. WalkBlock does not provide a live map, route history or continuous GPS location dashboard. This is an important distinction from broad family-location services.
Data stored by the app
The current implementation stores core configuration and a limited recent activity report in app-local Android storage. Report records can include the involved app, time, duration and event detail. WalkBlock does not require a separate WalkBlock cloud account for its core protection workflow. Google Play billing communicates with Google’s billing service when subscription features are used.
Android permissions
- Activity recognition helps determine whether movement-related protection should activate.
- Usage access lets WalkBlock identify which app is currently in use.
- Display over other apps allows the safety screen to cover a selected distracting app.
- Foreground service and notifications keep protection visible and operating under Android rules.
- Boot completion can restore enabled protection after a restart.
- Phone state helps avoid interfering with important call behavior.
Exact Android wording can differ by phone manufacturer and operating-system version. Android or device backup settings may also affect app-local data backups.
